Play it Forward is an appeal to collect pre-loved sporting clothing and equipment for less privileged children in East Africa. Co-founded in 2018 by Dominic Swinton, Manager of Kelly Sports Greater Ballarat and Senior player for Ballarat City Football Club, together with fellow former Senior Ballarat City Football Club Players Charles and David King, Alex Antonelli, and Board Member Stacey Thomas.
The appeal has been established to support the work of Charles, David and Alex in Tanzania, where they operate the King Brothers’ family safari and lodge business, Eastco.
For over 25 years Eastco has supplied water tanks and gutters for collecting rainwater and built classrooms for schools in the Tarangire region as part of their community conservation work. These schools have some of the lowest education and school attendance rates in the region and Eastco as been working to change that.
The provision of infrastructure and school lunches has helped, but with soccer such an important part of the culture in Tanzania, from children to adults, by starting primary school soccer programs Eastco has given children the incentive to attend school and has created an enjoyable, flourishing learning environment.
The soccer programs run by Charles, David & Alex provide structured training and coaching which serves to further enhance the enjoyment and enthusiasm of the children. Play it Forward aims to assist these programs by providing the uniforms, boots and equipment so desperately needed.
So if you or someone you know has sportswear that has suddenly become too small or equipment that is simply not being used anymore... its time to PLAY IT FORWARD!
WHAT TO DONATE
We are seeking donations of pre-loved sportswear and equipment in good condition.
Goal keeping gloves
We sincerely ask that donations are strictly limited to sportswear only - this is not an opportunity to get rid of that big bag of old clothes you’ve been meaning to take to the Salvos. We also ask that all items be washed and cleaned thoroughly before donation. If you have any questions about what to donate please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
